Folk history often relies heavily on oral tradition to keep the knowledge alive - The healing practises familiar to me were shared and passed down by my mother and grandmother.

The mask acts as a metaphor, inviting the viewer to look through the eyes of the ancestors.
The use of terracotta slip applied over inlays of a Dara Knot and organic material calls home to traditional materials used in both medicine and craft. Each decorative feature is directly linked to recipes from the earliest folk remedies recorded and practiced by the Physicians of Myddfai.
Final Outcome
In response to the brief of “Well-Being”, Fy Mam Y Tylwth Teg (My Mother The Fairy) - was inspired by early medieval medicine and my own experiences with traditional Celtic folk remedies.
Maquette
